Do I need Therapy?
This is a very tricky question to answer. For some the answer is a definite yes. If life has become so difficult that it feels impossible to manage, then I would say the answer is yes. But for others perhaps the real question is why do we have to need something in order to have it? We buy a new pair of shoes without needing them, but spending money on psychological well-being is still difficult to do. So I will pose some more questions ....
Are you unhappy?
Does unhappiness sit on your shoulders like a dull black cloud? Perhaps not the 'black dog', but just that the joy of life is difficult to find. Or that life is busy and it impossible to look forward with optimism.
Do you need to find clarity?
Are you struggling with a decision? Friends are well-meaning but they cannot help but see things from their perspective. Therapy is objective allowing you to come to your own decisions, to find the path right for you.
Have you had a crisis?
Crises come in many forms and affect us in different ways. Whether the break up of a relationship, a bereavement, redundancy, abuse or other crisis, sometimes we need to process what has happened, or is happening. Therapy offers a space to do just that.
Are you struggling with perfectionism?
Perfectionism is woven into the fabric of our society, but why? Who is meant to be so perfect? Why do we want to be that? What does being perfect mean? But perhaps most importantly, can we manage with not being perfect? Therapy can challenge society's expectations and our responses to them.
